Sous le charme, il ach\u00e8te alors les vieux b\u00e2timents de ferme d&rsquo;une exploitation agricole et recompose fa\u00e7ades et toitures dans le style d&rsquo;un ancien logis manorial du XVIIe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0si\u00e8cle. Il fait \u00e9galement creuser les diff\u00e9rentes pi\u00e8ces d&rsquo;eau tout en faisant b\u00e2tir des constructions annexes, fontaines, pavillons et m\u00eame une grotte italienne, orn\u00e9s de coquillages. Les <strong>jardins de Kerdalo<\/strong> sont n\u00e9s. Aid\u00e9 par plusieurs grands p\u00e9pini\u00e9ristes, comme Harold Hillier de Winchester, il am\u00e9nage pendant plus de 30 ans un jardin de peintre, aux inspirations \u00e0 la fois anglaises et italiennes. Ab\u00eem\u00e9 par les violentes temp\u00eates de 1987 et 1999, qui causent de grands d\u00e9g\u00e2ts, les jardins de Kerdalo ne doivent leur survie qu\u2019\u00e0 la fille de Peter Wolkonsky qui, apr\u00e8s la mort de ce dernier en 1997, restaure avec son mari le jardin et poursuit ainsi l&rsquo;\u0153uvre de son cr\u00e9ateur. En 2021, les Jardins de Kerdalo passent dans une autre dimension en \u00e9tant achet\u00e9s par le cr\u00e9ateur de chaussures de luxe <strong>Christian Louboutin<\/strong>. Et la cons\u00e9cration survient en mai 2025, lorsque les jardins de Kerdalo sont cit\u00e9s <strong>parmi les vingt-cinq plus beaux du monde<\/strong>, selon une liste publi\u00e9e par le prestigieux New-York Times. Au bord de l&rsquo;eau se dressent des foug\u00e8res arborescentes, non loin d\u2019hortensias, oscillant entre bleu, rose et violet, qui composent une v\u00e9ritable fresque naturelle, sublim\u00e9e par le reflet de ce d\u00e9cor dans l&rsquo;eau. \u201c<em>Ce que j\u2019ai essay\u00e9 d\u2019obtenir \u00e0 Kerdalo pendant plus de 25 ans, c\u2019est un monde clos, \u00e0 la fois naturel et fa\u00e7onn\u00e9, comme revisit\u00e9 par une sensibilit\u00e9 et un go\u00fbt personnels\u201d<\/em>, expliqu<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ait d\u2019ailleurs Peter Wolkonsky de son vivant. P\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans les jardins de Kerdalo, c\u2019est entrer dans un vaste paradis, divis\u00e9 en sept chambres distinctes, avec <strong>le Grand \u00c9tang, le Canal, la Lande Dor\u00e9e, les Quatre Carr\u00e9s, les Terrasses, la Vall\u00e9e du Bas et la Grotte Italienne<\/strong>. Un v\u00e9ritable univers botanique et romantique o\u00f9 coexistent plus de 5 000 plantes au fil des saisons, dont une vaste collection de rhododendrons, d\u2019azal\u00e9es, de cam\u00e9lias et de cornouillers. Citons par exemple le <strong>pin de Wollemi<\/strong>, Wollemia nobilis, d\u00e9couvert en 1994 dans les Blue Mountains australiennes, qui a des liens avec des esp\u00e8ces anciennes de plus de 200 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es. Se distinguant par une \u00e9corce rugueuse et ses aiguilles, les pins de Wollemi peuvent atteindre 25 \u00e0 40 m de haut. De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, le Podocarpus salignus, <strong>conif\u00e8re du Chili<\/strong>, peut atteindre 20 m de hauteur, avec des tiges retombantes d\u00e9gageant une gr\u00e2ce exceptionnelle. Fragile, \u00e0 la merci du temps, des changements climatiques et de la pollution, Kerdalo est un monde magique, blotti, clos, secret, \u00e0 la fois naturel et fa\u00e7onn\u00e9. Ouverts du mois d\u2019avril au mois de septembre, les Jardins de Kerdalo se d\u00e9couvrent uniquement lors des beaux jours. De quoi s\u2019offrir une escapade hors du temps et profiter d\u2019un spectacle fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 par des amoureux de la flore. S\u2019il y a donc un conseil que l\u2019on peut vous donner, outre celui de ne pas oublier votre appareil photo pour immortaliser la visite, c\u2019est de se d\u00e9p\u00eacher.
